Mobile Engagement: Beginning of a new Era in Digital Marketing


In today’s world mobile phone has been evolved to smart phones and is a necessity of an average person from teen ager till working force and Adults. The term “mobile devices” applies to a number devices becoming more common when discussing about mobile phone or a tablet. Mobile phones are changing the way in which we access internet and communicate with each other. It has revolutionized our lives with the variations of its usage and the ways of communicating with it.



There are different types of mobile devices being used broadly categorized as basic, feature or smart phones, and tablets and also considered a mobile devices:

Basic: These phones provide basic call and text messaging capabilities. All basic phones provide only entry level communication, GSM standards allow for marketing, advertising and even mobile payments.

Feature: These colour screen phones facilitate the basics and often have a few multimedia applications such as cameras or MP3 players. Most feature phones have WAP capabilities, which is a GSM protocol aimed at providing wireless information and telephonic services.

Smart phones: Black berry, Apple’s iPhone, Google’s Nexus one, PDAs and other smartphone devices, are moving closer to the benefits offered be desktop mobility and still integrating.

Tablets: are touch screen personal computer devices. They have wireless adapters for internet connectivity. Designed to be used by an individual but rather allow users to interact directly with the machine. Also recognizes both the keyboard input and hand writing recognition.
For brands, there are two opportunities for developing content for mobile phones:

Mobile web development: Mobile websites makes it possible for users to access information about your brand on the move where ever they may be, as long as the phone has browser and internet connection.    
Mobile applications: Applications for mobile phones which could be a fuel calculator or a recipe index etc. there are many developers who create apps in order to sell downloads and derive income.

The reasons for marketing through mobile phones :
·         It is personal.
·         Always carried.
·         Has built in payment system
·         Available for point of creative inspiration.
·         Provide accurate audience measurement.
·         Captures the social context of media consumption.
